pesach

We have been so busy getting ready for pesach in our classroom. We learnt so many new songs in connection with the pesach story. All the words for these songs can be found in your child's pesach Haggadah.
We focused a lot on numbers. Many of us are able to recognize the numbers from 1 to 5! We put together a pesach number book which we can't wait to show you.

We traced with crayons on top of lego boards to make the 3 "bumpy" matzas.

We glued silver foil onto our 4 cups of kiddush that we drink by the pesach seder table.

SCIENCE - YEAST EXPERIMENTS

In continuation of our Pesach story, we discussed that the Jewish people left Mitzrayim(Egypt) in such a hurry they didn't have time to let the dough rise so they made flat matza. Therefore we eat Matza for 8 days of Pesach.
We spoke about the difference between challah and matza. Challah is made with yeast to make it rise big but matza is made with only flour and water so it stays thin and flat.

We did two cool experiments to see the result of yeast in dough!
We mixed flour and water and made the dough into a flat matza.

After 10 minutes this is what we saw.

After 20 minutes the matza dough was still as flat as always and the challah (yeast ) dough had more than doubled in size! We couldn't believe our eyes!!

EXPERIMENT NUMBER 2:
We filled two bottles with water and sugar. We added yeast to one bottle (the bottle on the right). We put a balloon over each bottle. Watch and see what happened to the balloon on top of the bottle that had yeast!
Wow ! this was a really cool way to see the effects of yeast.

Our Trip to the Matza Factory

On Thursday we went on a trip to learn how to make Matza. We also got to see and be apart of a show about the story of Pesach (Passover).

Everyone got to make Matza to take home. We rolled it out until it was FLAT.

The Jewish People worked hard Day and Night in Egypt.

Rabbi Moshe led the jewish People out of Egypt to be free.

Scissors

Today we also practiced our scissor skills.

The song we sing is:(tune: the farmer in the dell...hi ho the dairy -o..")
"the thumb goes in the thumb place (big hole) , the fingers go together,
This is how we put our fingers when we hold a scissor"

Those of us that are good listeners and are able to follow directions :), are getting so much better at cutting.

Green and Triangles

The color we are focusing on now is green!

We made green collages with glue and green materials.

We painted with green paint on our easel.

We are also focusing on triangles. Morah gave us each three popsicle sticks to see if we could make a triangle shape.  Some of us were able to do it!

We sang the song: (tune :the wheels on the bus)
The shape of a triangle has three sides has three sides has three sides
The shape of a triangle has three sides
One , two and three.

We made triangle collages.

We even added green triangles to our sand table.
